Currently we have been using gift cards for store credit. It would be very helpful if there was a way to distinguish between the two. It would be awesome if we could have a store credit that was attached specifically to the customer's record like how loyalty points/bonus bucks are. Since we use the tender gift card for both store credit & redemption of sold gift cards it is tricky to untangle the two for our book keeping.

We just toyed with this issue. We started using house accounts module for this. It does work, you have to set each customer up with a house account in the module before you can use it. We set credit limit to $0.00. You also need to make a house account payment method and button in the register......or global settings.... can't remember where. After that, when customer returns an item you can refund them to their house account, it accepts it as a negative dollar amount. Then the customer has that credit to use as a payment "house account" payment button at the register. You can also see they have credit in their account after hitting the pencil to manage their account.

setting up each individual customer in the house account takes time. I just have a list of customers for my cashiers to go through and add them @ 0.00 limit.
